What is a Psycho-Educational Assessment?
A psycho-educational assessment is a series of standardized tests to determine an individuals intellectual ability, achievement levels, and social/emotional functioning. This assessment is carried out by a Registered Psychologist, and requires about ten to twelve hours to complete.
We are pleased to have a team of Registered Psychologists working with us at Foothills Academy Community Services. Working in partnership with The University of Calgary, we also provide Masters level practical work experience for supervised interns in the area of learning disabilities.
Why are Assessments Needed?
A psycho-educational assessment is required before students are able to access certain services funded by the province or school boards. The assessment can open many doors for special services/resources such as:
- Modified curriculum to suit individual needs (I.P.P.'s)
- Access to smaller classes
- Multi-disciplinary team members (occupational therapists, speech/language therapists.)
- Use of assistive technology in classroom and for assignments and exams -PATs or diplomas (calculator, spelling aid, or voice-text word processor)
- School based psychological services
Are there other assessments?
Our psychologists can also provide clinical assessments for purposes such as
- ADHD
- Mood Disorders (Anxiety, Depression)
- Adaptive Skills
- Psycho-social Development
Finally, we also have a multi-disciplinary team that includes speech / language, and occupational therapists. These specialists provide assessment and intervention services.
Our fee for a complete Psycho-Educational Assessment is $1500, which includes an initial intake, and 2-3 assessment sessions. This comprehensive process is followed by a final meeting, where we present a report and share our findings with the parents. Most clients are seen within 1 week of referral.
